Your experience connects you to local families as you dig deeper into traditions, familial ties, and a look at how Day of the Dead is celebrated in the Mexican home.
You will celebrate and share a traditional, Mexican-family dinner; leaving you feeling like a part of the family.
Traverse through time and take a descent into Mayan beliefs, as we explore caves, temples, and archaeological sites used for skywatching, trading, ceremonies, and daily living and entertainment, like the MesoAmerican Ball game.
A trip to Mexico wouldn’t be complete without time on or near the water. You will visit a local river that is home to more than 300 species of birds, including flamingos, and explore the water and birds from a small boat. You will explore a cenote, an estuary and experience kayaking and beach time.
The immersive part of the program is more than the exploration of sites, families, and museums. As participants you will learn a traditional dance, prepare and cook a traditional Day of the Dead meal, set-ups our own Day of the Dead altar, participate in ceremonies, and perform the Jarana dance at a festival at the end of the week. Become part of a tradition and ritual that has crossed ancestral wisdom, nature’s wisdom, familial ties, and a celebration of the spiritual transcendence of the life-death-rebirth cycle.
